Hibernians extended their unbeaten record in the HSBC Ladies' League to 40 consecutive matches after they obtained a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Mosta on Sunday. This exceptional run by the champions stretches back to March 2000.
On Sunday, Hibernians stamped their superiority from the outset to effectively seal the points with two goals inside the opening 31 minutes through Sarah Caruana and Joanne Vella.
Eighteen minutes into the second half, Dorianne Theuma, the league's leading scorer, added a third goal to take her tally for the season to eight.
In the first match, Melita leapfrogged Mosta into third place after a Maria Coppola goal five minutes into the second half gave them a 1-0 victory over Raiders. Melita could have won more comfortably but for some wasteful finishing by their strikers.
Sunday's two matches at the Pace Grasso Stadium were controlled by only two match officials... one hopes that this aberration will not occur again.
Top scorers: D. Theuma (Hibernians) 8 goals; S. Caruana (Hibs) 6; J. Vella (Hibs), E. Agliano (Birkirkara) 5 goals.
Next fixtures at the Pace Grasso Stadium: Sunday - 9 a.m. Birkirkara vs Melita; 10.30 a.m. Hibernians vs Rabat Ajax.
