Hibs Medsea stayed on course for a successful title defence after chalking up their sixth victory in as many outings by beating rivals Depiro last weekend.

Surprise package Loyola Xuereb Installations enhanced their prospects of playing in the Championship Pool after defeating Luxol while Kerygma stayed in touch with a hard-earned victory over Pembroke SW.

Hibs had rebounder Alexis Darmanin back from injury but Depiro were forced to field a depleted side though Sarah Pace returned from injury.

The champions imposed their superiority as the game progressed and never looked back. Depiro had the better start to lead 14-11 midway through the second quarter but Hibs soon found their rhythm.

After leading 17-14 at half-time, Hibs dominated the third session, potting 20 points to Depiro's only free-throw to extend their cushion to 37-15. Hibs were in a class of their own as they went on to win the game 59-41.

Loyola's victory over Luxol was a crucial one for Sandro Farrugia's girls as only the top three qualify for the Championship Pool at the end of the regular season.

Luxol sorely felt the absence of playmaker Kirsten Micallef who was unavailable. Luxol opened strongly but Loyola upped their game to share the exchanges till half-time - 25-21 for Luxol.

Loyola scored seven consecutive points after the interval to take a 28-25 lead.

There was a renewed attempt by Luxol to turn the tide in their favour but Loyola held on before wrapping up a 47-41 victory.

Strong resistance

Kerygma encountered strong resistance from the young Pembroke SW side. After a balanced first quarter, the Wanderers gained the upperhand to lead 31-21 at half-time.

Kerygma fought back after the interval to reduce the leeway to 40-37 before the last session got underway.

Kerygma continued with their attacking stance and 11 consecutive points saw them leading 50-46 with a few minutes to go. With Pembroke failing to make a bold reaction, Kerygma emerged 52-48 winners.
