SLIEMA WANDERERS 1

Muchardi 49pen.

In a tale of two penalties, Matias Muchardi scored from the spot just after half-time which proved enough for the Wanderers to grab all points.

After a rather cautious start, Jackson Lima was close with an inswinging corner that was pushed over the bar by Sliema goalkeeper Glenn Zammit.

The Paolites kept up the pressure and an angled drive from the Brazilian was stopped by the diving Zammit.

But shortly after the restart, a rare slip by Rodolfo Soares allowed Edmond Agius to gallop into the box with the consequence that the Brazilian defender hauled down the midfielder to concede a penalty. Matias Muchardi struck his penalty low in the right corner and although Andrew Hogg managed to get a hand to the ball, it spun up and over the line.

On 66 minutes, it was Hibs’ turn to be awarded a penalty after Dunstan Vella’s surge into the box was halted by the sliding Luke Shaw, prompting Clayton Pisani to point to the spot.

Jurgen Degabriele assumed responsibility for the penalty but his tame shot was touched away by Zammit.

BOV Player of the match: Glenn Zammit (Sliema Wanderers).
