Hibernians scored the biggest win of the season when they thrashed Mgarr 14-0 in midweek to equal the 18-point tally of leaders Birkirkara, who, however, have a game in hand.

In other matches at the Luxol Ground, Sliema Raiders beat Rabat 4-0 while Sta Venera and Mosta cancelled each other out in a 2-2 draw.

The Hibs-Mgarr match was a non-contest with the champions opening a six-goal lead by half-time.

They took the lead after ten minutes when Dorianne Theuma's corner was deflected into the net by Mgarr defender Stephanie Mamo. Hibs doubled their lead on 17 minutes with a Raisa Farrugia grounder.

Sarah Caruana struck a quick-fire hat-trick to put Hibs 5-0 ahead and take her personal club tally to 95 goals. Hibs had time to add another goal before the break, scored by Theuma on 41 minutes.

The second half was purely academic as Hibs scored eight more goals through Ylenia Carabott (48, 68, 82, 84), Maria Azzopardi (65), Farrugia (75), Theuma (76) and Rebecca Chircop (80) as the luckless Mgarr were completely outclassed.

Raiders had a comfortable win over Rabat. Jean Pierre Portanier's team were in control and, inspired by Damaris Cassar and Claudia Borg, were a cut above their opponents.

Sliema went into the interval a goal ahead, scored by Graziella Vella.

After the break, Portanier deployed goalkeeper Sonia Farrugia as an outfield player for the third time this season and, again, she was on the scoresheet when hitting her team's fourth goal. Michelle Debattista and Aman-da Atkins were the other scorers for Raiders.

There were no winners in the other match as Sta Venera and Mosta had to settle for a draw.

Christine Dalli put Sta Venera ahead after just three minutes and the Saints' forward almost netted a second a minute later but her shot hit the bar.

Mosta equalised in the ninth minute through a Jane Coates free-kick.

On the half hour Dalli was fouled in the Mosta area. From the penalty she put Sta Venera 2-1 ahead.

Mosta surged forward more frequently after the break and their efforts were rewarded late on when Coates's cross-shot surprised the Sta Venera defence with the ball hitting the back of the net.

The last match from the regular season, between Birkirkara and Melita, will be played on Tuesday. The second phase starts on Wednesday.

Group A, the Championship Pool, will include the top four teams in the standings - Birkirkara, Hibernians, Melita and Mosta. The other play in Group B.

Teams retain their points for the second phase during which two rounds will be played.
