Hibernians have reportedly turned their attentions to Etienne Barbara as they step up their search for Terrence Scerri's replacement.

Barbara, who played for SC Verle in the German Regionnaliga last season, is eager to continue his career abroad but is not ruling out a return to Maltese football.

Sources have told The Times that Hibs yesterday contacted Barbara to see if he would be interested in joining them.

Barbara, who is also a target for Floriana, has been receptive to Hibs' overtures but is still pondering his options after Serie C2 club Pescina made enquiries about him earlier this week.

The Malta forward is expected to make a decision in the next few days.

On Tuesday, Hibs agreed to transfer Scerri to Premier League rivals Valletta for an undisclosed fee.
