Rapid Vienna's Josef Hickersberger will take over as Austria's national coach from January, the country's soccer federation (OeFB) announced.
Hickersberger was appointed to the post last week but his club's chief Rudolf Edlinger was unwilling to release the coach. The OeFB reached an agreement to pay Rapid Vienna losses from sponsorship deals for allowing Hickersberger to leave early.
Hickersberger replaces Hans Krankl, who was sacked a month ago following Austria's failure to qualify for next year's World Cup finals.
