High demand for Italian ballet brings special afternoon matinee to Malta

Where ballet meets art: A unique cultural experience comes to Malta

Malta’s cultural calendar is set to shine this March as the internationally acclaimed Balletto di Milano brings its powerful production of Carmen to the island for two exclusive performances on March 29 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre.

Renowned for blending classical technique with contemporary storytelling, Balletto di Milano’s Carmen is a bold, emotionally charged reinterpretation of Bizet’s timeless tale – a story of passion, freedom, and fate, told through movement, music, and striking visual design.

Inspiring the next generation

In a special initiative aimed at nurturing young talent, local ballet school students will be invited to attend an open rehearsal the day before the performance. This rare behind-the-scenes experience will allow aspiring dancers to observe the company at work, ask questions, and gain insight into the discipline and artistry that shape a world-class production.

It is an opportunity that goes beyond watching a performance - it is about understanding the journey behind it.

From the intensity of the choreography to the intimacy of Tonon’s artwork, this event promises a fully immersive cultural experience - one where ballet and visual art meet on equal footing. From the intensity of the choreography to the intimacy of Tonon’s artwork, this event promises a fully immersive cultural experience - one where ballet and visual art meet on equal footing.

When music, dance, and art meet

Adding an exciting new dimension to the event is the first-ever Maltese exhibition by Italian artistic talent Evans Tonon. A versatile operatic baritone and trained actor, known for his work in Italian television and film, Tonon will present a collection of intricate ballpoint pen masterpieces - including two exclusive works inspired by Carmen.

The exhibition will be hosted at the historic Sacra Infermeria, located within the Mediterranean Conference Centre, and will be open prior to the performances.

Audiences will also have the rare chance to meet the artist in person, offering a unique opportunity to explore the connections between music, visual art, and dance.

A night to remember

Supported by excellence

This extraordinary event is made possible through the generous sponsorship of Salini Resort, whose continued support helps bring world-class performances to Maltese audiences.

With its blend of performance, education, and artistic exploration, Carmen by Balletto di Milano is more than a show – it is a celebration of creativity in all its forms. On March 29, Malta becomes the stage where dance, music, and art come together in unforgettable harmony.
