Many of the characteristics that distinguish a manager from a good manager relate to people management skills. Although personality plays an important role, it is acknowledged that the management and development of people is a science, which can be studied so as to become a good and professional manager.

People management is a specialisation that is of interest not only to the human resource professional or to those who wish to pursue a career in this field, but also to those professionals in other fields of study who aspire for a managerial position.

The Centre for Labour Market Studies, University of Leicester, through its local agent, the FHRD, offers one of the best solutions to meet these needs. CLMS offers internationally recognised distance learning programmes at all levels, starting from Certificate, progressing on to Diploma, Masters and Doctorate for the more ambitious scholar.

Therefore, you can build your HR career but also enhance your profession through CLMS. With its 15 years of experience, CLMS is internationally renowned for the quality of its research and the high standard of its academic courses. The distance learning medium allows for flexibility of where and when to study, of particular advantage to those professionally involved.

The FHRD has acquired an acumen of five years experience as agents of CLMS, during which it has built an efficient support system for its over 200 graduates and students. One hundred and fifty students have so far successfully completed their studies with a success rate of 96 per cent.

Twenty-two of these students last month received confirmation of their academic achievement. The FHRD would like to congratulate Mario Casha for successfully completing the Certificate in Training Practice, Claudette Debono, Joseph Spiteri and Cristabelle Tabone for successfully completing the Diploma in Training and Development, and Christine Apap Olivia Farrugia, Sharon Spiteri, Marvic Vassallo and Marisa Vella for successfully completing the Diploma in Human Resource Management.

Also 13 Masters graduates will in July attend their graduation in Leicester (more on which will be carried in next month's FHRD page).

If you are interested to know more about the CLMS courses, contact the FHRD on tel: 21378895 or send an e-mail to dgouder@fhrd.org. An information meeting will be held on September 1, 2005, at 5.30 p.m. at FHRD, San Gwann.
