I refer to a letter by Mark Harwood way back in July. In it, he so very rightly complained that a high percentage of drivers use their mobile phones while driving. Further, he specified that mobile phones seem to be used mostly by drivers in built-up areas and when driving round bends. Sadly, the situation has become even worse.

The RAC's Stephen Glaister, a university professor who commissioned a study last year in the UK on a driving simulator, concluded that using a mobile phone is one of the most dangerous things that can be done while driving a car.

Further, his study showed that drivers who text at the wheel are three times more dangerous than those who have been boozing. Surely, the law in Malta is screaming for wardens and the police to deal effectively with these blatant, dangerous and potentially murderous lawbreakers. Finally, I ask how many drivers have been charged with using a mobile phone ?
