A copy of the statue of the sleeping lady found at the Hypogeum in Hal Saflieni and dated to 3,600 BC is the first of a series of statues recalling Malta`s history that will adorn Gnien is-Salvatur in Kalkara.

Other statues, made of weather resistant materials, will be placed in the public garden according to a plan called Miniature Malta drawn up by the Kalkara local council and Touring Club of Malta.

The idea behind Miniature Malta is to show highlights of the island`s colourful history through sculptures.

During the inauguration of this initiative yesterday, mayor Michael Cohen said the garden was passed on to be administered by the council last January.
