Holy Week exhibition in Birkirkara

A Jewish-style cenacle is the highlight of the display

The TEAK (Talent, Elenjan, Arti u Kultura) Commission within the Soċjetà Każin Santa Liena, Banda Duke of Connaught’s Own Band of Birkirkara is presenting the 26th edition of the Holy Week exhibition Agnus Dei.

This year’s sacred display will once again be held in the cellar and basement of the club premises, offering visitors a unique spiritual and artistic experience connected to the Passion of Christ.

Among the highlights of the exhibition is the Table of the Apostles, where visitors can admire a variety of decorative dishes and framed artworks made from semolina, rice and coloured dough, together with a set of statues representing the apostles.

At the entrance to the exhibition, visitors will be welcomed by symbols of the Passion and artistic banners that set the tone for this devotional display.

The exhibition also features a wide range of items related to the Passion, including sets of statues by established Maltese artists, small devotional statues, various antique crucifixes, costumes from the biblical procession organised by the society and a collection of sacred art.

Once again, visitors will be able to admire a large, framed artwork measuring eight by four feet, depicting a scene from the Passion, created entirely from semolina.

Another highlight of the exhibition is a Jewish-style cenacle representing the washing of the feet of the apostles, featuring three life-size figures: Jesus Christ and the apostles Simon Peter and John, all sculpted by artist Andrew Bugeja.

The exhibition will be open from March 25 to April 4. Opening hours: weekdays: 6 to 9pm, Saturdays and Sundays: 9.30am to noon and 6 to 9pm; Maundy Thursday from 6 to 11pm; and on Good Friday from 9am to 12.30pm.
