WasteServ Malta Ltd is providing information on home composting during the Alternative Energy, Environment and Gardening Fair being held at the Trade Fair Grounds in Naxxar until Sunday.

Compost trainer Cynthia Caruana will offer guidance to anyone wishing to start home composting.

Organic materials such as leaves, grass clippings, food scraps and soiled paper make up almost 50 per cent of domestic waste. By composting that material at home, one can significantly reduce the amount of rubbish and also help to divert it from the national waste management facilities.

Much of our household waste can be recycled, by composting its organic fraction thus saving money and protecting the environment, WasteServ said.

The company believes that the direct involvement of citizens in treating their waste reduces the need of collection and treatment. Householders can use their own compost to enrich the soil in their private gardens or flower pots.
