Five eight-week-old puppies abandoned in a large carton box near the Crafts Village in Ta' Qali are looking for a new home and caring owners.

The puppies, which are part Labrador, were found by tourists. They were huddled together trying to keep warm, without any food or a drop of water to drink.

Alfred Fenech, who runs the Association for Abandoned Animals, said far too many animals were being abandoned.

"So far we have managed to find homes for abandoned animals, but one of these days our luck is going to run out," he said.

Mr Fenech said that luckily after an appeal in The Times the two part-Alsatian puppies recently abandoned in Mosta, had found a new loving owner.

Those who wish to adopt one of these five puppies may call Mr Fenech on 7929 7930.
