A couple on their way to their honeymoon were both killed when the helicopter they were in crashed in Uvalde, Texas, just a kilometre-and-a-half away from the wedding venue.
Will Byler, his new wife Bailee Ackerman – both 23 – and the aircraft’s pilot, Vietnam veteran Gerald Green Lawrence, 76, all died. Mr Lawrence worked for the groom’s father’s helicopter business and was taking the couple to San Antonio airport.
The couple, both seniors at Sam Houston State University, had only been married for just over an hour, having tied the knot in front of some 700 guests.
