I am not interested in party politics, but I surely want Malta to join the EU. I am utterly disappointed and saddened by those who invent all sorts of arguments to induce people to vote against membership.

Prominent members of the European Commission, like Romano Prodi, Günter Verheugen, Pascal Lamy and Chris Patten, have advised us not to miss the great advantages of membership. Let us heed their advice.

I know one of them very well, and I can assure readers he is a very good man and is keen on Malta joining the EU because he likes Malta and wishes the Maltese and Gozitans to have a secure and happy future.

I have lived abroad for several years and know the disadvantages of not being an EU citizen, one of them being the residence permit.

I know that the Catholic Church, to which we belong, is strongly in favour of European unification, and would like Malta to form part of an expanding EU. I pray God to enlighten us to make the right choice.

I sincerely hope the vast majority of my fellow countrymen will vote yes on Saturday.
