The situation at the main gate of St Luke's Hospital returned to normal on Thursday after the General Workers' Union lifted a directive to security guards not to man the gate.

The directive was issued last September over a demand that new security rooms be built that would adequately protect the guards from the weather.

The GWU said that following talks over the last few days, it was officially informed that the hospital management had started procedures to build new security rooms to replace the two situated at the entrance to the hospital.
