The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association has backed a request made by member hotels in the Sliema and St Julians area for the construction of a golf course in the Pembroke and White Rocks area.
The MHRA believes that additional golf courses would benefit tourism in both the quantity and quality of visitors.
The association said the development of golf courses was a necessity that would assist tourism in the low season. Golf courses also provided an additional attraction to the conference and incentive business where the sport was sought out.
The MHRA said it also supported the projected golf course in the north of the island.
But in view of the lapse of time until the environmental impact assessments are completed, the association requested the authorities to carry out two parallel EIAs on the two sites. This would leave the option open of going for both or, if one of them failed, having the remaining option immediately available rather than having to wait, yet again, for many months for another EIA, it argued.
