The hunters' federation said today the decision by the Ornis commitee not to give a recommendation to the government whether or not to open the Spring hunting season was the right one given the current circumstances and the implications of the European Court case on spring hunting.

The federation said it was taking this view even though it realised that some might be some who were playing for time because of the general election.
