Husband admits using moral violence against wife, daughter

Accused did not accept wife's separation request after 20 years of marriage

A 55-year-old man was handed a probation order after he admitted to using moral violence against his wife, as well as causing her and their minor daughter fear that violence would be used against them.

The man was also accused of threatening and insulting the wife, among other charges.

The couple have been married for over 20 years and the woman recently informed the accused that she wanted a separation. The man did not accept the situation and he allegedly broke items at their house in anger.

On Friday, the man admitted to the charges.

After hearing the submissions on punishment, the man was handed a three-year probation order. The court also imposed a treatment order and issued a restraining order in favour of the woman and their daughter.

Magistrate Ingrid Bianco presided.

Police inspector Omar Zammit prosecuted.

Lawyer Charles Mercieca assisted the accused.
