<i>Fusion</i> - a dance extravaganza

Fusion, Creative Dance Studio`s first production, is going to be held at St Agatha`s Auditorium on Saturday, May 11, at 8 p.m.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, Clarissa Borg, the school`s founder, principal and the dance extravaganza`s artistic director, said the performance opens with a children`s ballet based on James Barrie`s classic, Peter Pan, set to music by John Williams.

Ms Borg said: "I wanted to stage a ballet for children with a storyline. The children relate to the story of Peter Pan. Bringing it to life through movement and dance has been magical for them."

The second part of the dance spectacle, will boast performances by the school`s senior students. The dance routines, all of which will be interconnected, will depict multifarious themes, featuring Classical, Contemporary, Modern Jazz, Hip Hop and Spanish Dance.

Ms Borg and Kathrina Farrugia are responsible for the classical pieces, to music by Antonin Dvorak, Ede Poldini and Patrick Doyle, while Sandra Mifsud`s contemporary number Formality in Motion is set to music by David Byrne. Diane Portelli will be looking at life as an interaction of people, experiences and ideas in her Spanish choreography Encuentros.

Janet Vella will capture the audience`s attention with three contrasting pieces. Fusion will come to an end with a tango from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack choreographed by Ms Vella.

Creative Dance Studio, set up three years ago, gives its students the opportunity to experience and learn the joy of dance. By running the school, Ms Borg is putting into practice her philosophy of nurturing a love for dance through creativity, self-discipline and a high level of technique.
