An iGaming company director was yesterday charged with misappropriating about €800,000 and failing to pay €100,000 in licences and fees.

Jean Pavili, 42, an Austrian national who was described in court as the “ultimate beneficial owner” of Everleaf Gaming Ltd and Gold Man Gaming Ltd, denied misappropriation.

He also denied failing to pay his gaming licence and tax, failing to notify the Lotteries and Gaming Authority of the relocation of the control system, failing to deposit winnings and failing to disclose all ultimate beneficiaries to ensure that all are fit and proper.

Magistrate Josette Demicoli granted Mr Pavili bail against a deposit of €10,000 and personal guarantee of €10,000.

The court upheld a request for his assets to be frozen, both in Malta and abroad, to the tune of €900,000.

Police Inspector Daniel Zammit prosecuted. Lawyer Giannella de Marco represented the accused.

Another company director, Michael Zwi Oros, 33, from Sweden, is facing similar charges.

The Malta Lotteries and Gaming Authority said in September it had suspended the company’s gaming licences with effect from July 26 last year.
