Two uncapped Swedish-based players were preferred to the experience of Thordur Gudjonsson and Arnar Gretarsson in Iceland's squad for their World Cup qualifier away to Croatia on Saturday.
Midfielder Kari Arnason of Djurgarden and Halmstad striker Gunnar Heidar Thorvaldsson were picked instead of Gudjonsson of Stoke and Lokeren's Gretarsson for the Croatia game and a friendly against Italy four days later.
Iceland have taken just one point from four qualifiers following a 0-0 draw against Malta at Ta' Qali in October. The two European minnows are bottom of Group Eight with one point.
