Id-Dar tal-Providenza needs urgent support

As one of the many volunteers doing their best to lend a helping hand at Id-Dar tal-Providenza homes in Siggiewi, I experience first-hand the current unfortunate predicament the homes are in.

The heartfelt appeal for funds made some two months ago by the director Mgr Lawrence Gatt did result in prompting a number of benevolent contributors to make much-needed donations.

Unfortunately donations have once again petered out to a few liri each day - nowhere near the Lm4,500 needed daily to cater for the many needs of the 120 residents.

I urge all enterprising Maltese and Gozitans, here or abroad, to come forward with proposals for fund-raising initiatives in aid of Id-Dar tal- Providenza. I also urge the public to support such campaigns wholeheartedly, as they have always done.

It would be indeed unfortunate if this live testimonial to Maltese benvolence and generosity is forced to downgrade its services because of lack of financial support.
