During the last month following the introduction of the seven-day week emergency service, the Malta Environment and Planning Authority received 100 reports, 36 concerning pollution control, six related to nature protection and 58 pertaining to development control illegalities.

Mepa, which is conducting an advertising campaign through a number of posters, said these calls did not include the numerous calls made requesting information. These calls were directed to the information desk and dealt with.

The service is an extension of the weekend service Mepa introduced in December 2001.

The emergency service has now been extended to one on a daily basis operating between 6 and 11 p.m.

During the night, the public can leave a message on the answering machine which will be seen to at 6 a.m.

Illegal development reports may be made by calling 9926 9926 (Malta) and 9924 9924 (Gozo) while Environment Protection issues may be reported on 7949 6320 (nature protection) and 9921 9991 (pollution control).
