'Il-Quws' re-arrested after AG appeals his seventh bail

Notorious repeat offender was arrested just hours after appealing a three-year jail sentence

Notorious serial offender Melvin Debono, known as il-Quws, will spend the night under arrest after the Attorney General appealed his seventh bail.

The 33-year old from Paola was granted bail on Wednesday after pleading not guilty to threatening to burn down his ex-girlfriend’s apartment if she did not return his belongings.

Debono has a long history of court appearances. In April he was granted bail for the sixth time in connection with a high-speed crash while fleeing police after assaulting his girlfriend in public.

On Thursday morning, he was sentenced to three  years in prison for firing an unlicensed weapon in a residential area but he immediately contested the decision which meant the sentence would not take effect until the appeal is resolved.

Times of Malta learnt that Debono was re-arrested on Thursday evening, after the Attorney General appealed the latest bail granted by the Court of Magistrates on Wednesday.

It is understood that the Criminal Court is set to hear the submissions on the AG's appeal on Friday.
