The Civil Protection Department (CPD) has received enough donations to fill eight containers of aid to the earthquake victims of Haiti.

The Home Affairs Ministry said the high point of the collection was reached this afternoon, with a queue of cars having been formed outside the CPD warehouse in Marsa.

The CPD collected tinned food, water and blankets for the earthquake victims.

Home Affairs Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici described the people's response as impressive.

He thanked the people for their generosity as well as the workers of the CPD and volunteers, including those from St John Ambulance, who helped receive the donations.

The containers will be packed and dispatched later this week.

The CPD will continue to receive monetary donations on Bank of Valletta account 40018758443 and HSBC account 078-002391-050.
