Popovic: Australia have lodged a formal complaint with FIFA over Bastian Schweinsteiger's tackle that has ended Tony Popovic's involvement in the Confederations Cup. "I have to say that the tackle was a disgraceful one from Schweinsteiger," Australia boss Frank Farina said.

Tottenham: Tottenham have agreed to pay an undisclosed amount of compensation to London rivals Crystal Palace for winger Wayne Routledge. The England under-21 international joined Palace as a schoolboy but refused to sign a new contract last season. As he is only 20, Routledge was not available on a free transfer under the Bosman Ruling at the end of his contract and Palace were able to demand compensation. He will officially become a Tottenham player on July 1.

Friendly: Barcelona will play Juventus in the annual Joan Gamper trophy on August 24. Fabio Capello's Juve follow in the footsteps of Milan, who lost 2-1 in last year's pre-season fixture at the Nou Camp. Barcelona will play the game three days after the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup against King's Cup winners Real Betis. The Primera Liga resumes on the weekend of August 27-28.

Pellegrino: Argentine defender Mauricio Pellegrino has been released by European champions Liverpool. The 33-year-old centre-half was signed on short-term deal from manager Rafa Benitez's old club Valencia in January and played 12 Premier League games for the club.

Celtic: Polish champions Wisla Krakow are in talks with Celtic over the sale of international striker Maciej Zurawski. Zuraw-ski, 28, has long been regarded as the Polish league's biggest offensive threat and has attracted interest from Turkey's Trabzonspor and Austria Vienna. Polish newspapers reported that new Celtic manager Gordon Strachan watched Zurawski in this week's Polish Cup semi-final, in which he scored.
