Montella: Vincenzo Montella is reportedly set to extend his deal with Roma until 2009. The prolific marksman is topping the Serie A scoring charts. The club aims to sort things out by offering Montella a new deal. Roma want to keep skipper Francesco Totti together with Antonio Cassano and Montella as their attacking options for the future and build a team around them.

Beenhakker: Leo Beenhakker has been named as the new coach of Trinidad. The 62-year-old Dutchman will replace Bertille St Clair, who was fired after a 0-0 draw at home to Costa Rica in Wednesday's World Cup qualifier. The result left the Soca Warriors bottom of the final stage of the CONCACAF qualifying group with one point from three games. Beenhakker has worked as coach for Feyenoord, Ajax, Real Zaragoza, Volendam, Real Madrid, Grasshoppers, America (Mexico), Istanbulspor, Guadalajara and Vitesse.

Soccer violence: Violence overshadowed the latest round of Romanian matches over the weekend. In Alba Iulia, Steaua Bucharest fans burned plastic seats and a policeman was hospitalised during clashes between supporters and riot forces. Steaua could only manage a 1-1 draw with second from bottom Apulum Alba Iulia, losing top spot to Dinamo Bucharest. There was also trouble in Bucharest where Dinamo fans attacked police after provocative banners were banned from the stands.

Vieri: Inter have been handed a boost in their Champions League preparations with the news that Christian Vieri could make Wednesday's tie. Inter take on city rivals Milan in the quarter-finals and it was originally suspected that striker Vieri would be unfit to make the first leg. However, Vieri trained regularly during the weekend and the club are hopeful that he could be fit to face Carlo Ancelotti's side.
