62m high Tower of Light wows the crowds on festa eve

Mqabba's St Mary Fireworks Factory delivered their annual spectacle of light on Thursday evening as their elaborate pyrotechnic display coloured the sky.

The factory was aiming for new heights as their famous "Tower of Light" reached 62m, a full 12m higher than last year's, with more than 10,000 shots (murtali) choreographed to music.

Enthusiasts have been working a whole year for tonight's event.

The feast of the Assumption is celebrated in several other towns and villages, including Qrendi, Gudja, Ħal Għaxaq, Attard, Mosta, and Rabat in Gozo. Celebrations also take place at the Old Church in Birkirkara, Santa Marija Church in Ħal Tarxien, and Tas-Samra Church in Ħamrun.
