Incentive schemes in Gozo 'to strengthen quality jobs'
The schemes form part of a clear vision for a stronger and more sustainable Gozo - minister
The Gozo ministry has announced the renewal of incentive schemes in Gozo "to strengthen quality jobs and drive sustainable growth."
They are the Supporting Sustainable Quality Employment Scheme, the Supporting Knowledge-based Sectors in Gozo Scheme, the Supporting Marketing Initiatives for the Accommodation Sector in Gozo Scheme, and the Promoting Gozo’s Niche Tourism Markets Scheme.
Announcing the measures, Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri said that while unemployment in Gozo is practically non-existent, the purpose of the schemes is to encourage employers to continue offering value-added jobs, while supporting more stable employment with competitive conditions.
The Supporting Sustainable Quality Employment Scheme aims to back jobs that offer greater stability alongside more competitive wages. Among the eligibility criteria, positions must be based in Gozo and filled by Gozo residents, with employment created from November 2025 onwards, the ministry said.
The Supporting Knowledge-based Sectors in Gozo Scheme is designed to further incentivise value-added employment in high-skilled sectors. Eligible jobs must also be based in Gozo and filled by residents, with positions created from November 2025 onwards. Over the past two years, the scheme has provided €122,000 in incentives, with 60% allocated to legal, financial and digital sectors.
The Supporting Marketing Initiatives for the Accommodation Sector in Gozo Scheme will offer assistance to tourism accommodation operators to launch more professional and digitally driven promotional campaigns, with the aim of attracting higher-value tourism. In addition, the Promoting Gozo’s Niche Tourism Markets Scheme supports operators in participating in international tourism fairs and carrying out promotional campaigns to further position Gozo as an experience-based destination.
Camilleri said the schemes form part of a clear vision for a stronger and more sustainable Gozo, where economic growth goes hand in hand with residents’ quality of life.“We will continue investing in measures that create new opportunities, strengthen strategic sectors and place Gozo at the forefront as a modern, resilient and innovative economy,” the minister said.
