The Movement in Favour of Rights of Persons with a Disability refers to Maria Victoria Micallef's letter (June 2).
Ms Micallef stated that students attending regular schools have their Individual Educational Programme (IEP). While it is our wish and goal to see that this becomes a reality, we are doing our utmost in collaboration with the authorities concerned.
If only Ms Micallef cared to ensure that each and every one of our students with disability had the IEP, then it would have been truly a situation of equal opportunities.
In our minds there is no stigma on special schools. Suffice to mention that the majority of the committee members of the Movement in Favour of Rights for Persons with a Disability have their children attending special schools. We have come a long way in inclusive education and this has not been at the expense of special schools but as a holistic approach to the development of the individual.
The argument in favour or against special schools has long been settled in as much as we need to have all possible resources available for our children with disability, including experienced persons like Ms Micallef.
