Indebted to the Nationalist Party

For the last 34 years, and till this very day, I have given my humble part within the Nationalist Party. I can say that over these years I have never obtained nor presumed to obtain any kind of favour, not even a glass of water. The only thing I want from life is a sound conscience.

On the contrary, my involvement in politics led me to a 42-hour arrest at the police headquarters in the early 1980s when Malta was governed by a socialist party that did not have a popular majority.

Being arrested in those dull years of terror was no joke. Just to mention one case, Leonard Debono had been killed in the same place only a few years. I was alone and afraid but I prayed to God and remembered Eddie's words: "Is-sewwa jirbaħ żgur" (truth prevails).

I left that place unscathed.

This experience only made me stronger, more Nationalist and always very cautious never to let my party down. I take this very seriously because keeping democracy in mind, I owe a lot to the Nationalist Party. I cannot imagine Malta without this glorious party.
