I have read about the plight of my friend and acquaintance Isabelle Borg in the article titled Every Breath She Takes (March 4).
How sad! In the year 2010 Malta can now boast of being one of the leading countries in Europe when it comes to privileging the interests of inert objects over those of living human beings: noisy air conditioners destroy human beings' right to rest; the dust of buildings and quarries prevails over the right of residents to pure air; the constructors' (those who finance the PN and the PL) greed for more and more allows massive building blocks to prevail over residents' right to light and air... whether in Attard, Sliema, Swieqi, Floriana or Marsalforn is immaterial.
The following two sayings were once the pride of our country: "Small is beautiful" and "Malta fior del mondo".
Today, in 2010, we are moving fast towards a whole re-reading of these sayings, which, locally, will soon read: "Small means to be trodden upon" and "Malta disastro del mondo".
