The Maltese National Informatics Competition is being held on June 21, with the winners going on to represent Malta in the International Olympiad in Informatics being held in Korea in August.

Those selected will be given specialised training at the University of Malta before they depart.

The Olympiad showcases the world's best information technology students under the age of 20. Candidates are usually selected for their problem-solving prowess, analytical skills and mathematical competence.

More than 250 students from 75 countries usually participate. Malta has not taken part since 1996 and to date has won a bronze medal.
