The main aim of the Institute of Agriculture is to organise degree and diploma courses in agricultural sciences while also conducting research in the subject with particular reference to the needs of Maltese agriculture. The Institute assists in the development of national agricultural plans and in the study of efficient uses of local agricultural resources, providing also professional advisory and extension services to the local farming community.

At present, the Institute offers a two-year full-time Diploma in Agriculture, a two year full-time (three-year part-time) M.Sc. in Agricultural Sciences for graduates in Chemistry and Biology who wish to enter agriculture, a one-year full-time (two year part-time) M.Sc. in Agricultural and Veterinary Pharmacy for graduates in Pharmacy and an M.Phil. and Ph.D. for graduates in agriculture and biology.
