Over 400 Tumas Group employees are undergoing intensive training sessions, organised by the group`s Human Resources Development Department.

These systematic training sessions are aimed at keeping all employees abreast with current developments and new systems related to their work environment.

The first in the series of training sessions for this year was inaugurated in January and involved training for middle managers and assistants.

The courses have been divided into three main areas including "Coaching for high performance", "Developing personal influence" and "Communicating company strategy".

All sessions are highly interactive and based on the principles of experiential learning. Very little direct lecturing is involved, since the emphasis is on group exercises, discussions, simulations and short questionnaires.

The main facilitators of these training sessions are Patrick Psaila, who has over eight years` experience in training methods and is also a lecturer in the B.Psy (Hons) course and M.Psy programme in counselling psychology at University of Malta, and Joseph F.X. Zahra, BA (Hons) Econ., MA (Econ.), MCIM, managing director, MISCO Ltd.

"Training is an on-going process at the Tumas Group. During the winter and shoulder months we will be holding over 30 different training sessions for employees of Portomaso, New Dolmen Hotel, Topaz Hotel, the Oracle Casino, the Halland Hotel and the L-Imgarr Hotel Gozo.

"Due to the diverse nature of the group`s business, our training differs according to the needs of each company and as a result varies from practical health and safety training to management and accounting workshops to customer service and guest relations, among others," Tumas Group managing director George Fenech said.
