The second Malta Laser Class Association (MLCA) regatta was held recently at the Birzebbuga Sailing Club in Wied il-Buni.

Thirty three sailors competed in five classes. Besides the usual Laser Standard, Laser Radial and Laser 4.7 Classes, participation was also open to the Optimist Class Dinghies, which the MLCA recognises as the foundation class for the Laser sailors of the future.

Principal race officer Peter Dimech was assisted by Jenny Camilleri who together ran a flawless event.

The two days of racing saw some very close battles between contestants and in some classes, it was only in the last race that the winner of the respective sections was decided.

D'Agata Marine Nautilus Services of Ta' Xbiex and their yacht hardware suppliers - Harken, were the main sponsors of the event.

Laser Radial: 1. Simon Aquilina; 2. Zak Borg; 3. Christoph Podesta.

Laser 4.7: 1. Matthew Fleri Soler; 2. Liz Apap Bologna.

Optimist Class: 1. William Camilleri; 2. Benji Borg; 3. Jan Philip.

Optimist Class Cadets: 1. Sean Borg; 2. Thomas Zammit Tabone; 3. Lee Gauci.
