The English-Speaking Union (ESU) is organising an international relations conference themed 'Global Challenges' at Mansfield College, Oxford, from August 8 to 14.

It will deal with a variety of issues relating both to international relations and to Britain's international role in the world today.

ESU Malta has been offered a scholarship that will cover all costs at Mansfield College - lectures, receptions, visits, accommodation and meals - and is also providing a free flight to the UK thanks to a sponsorship from Air Malta.

The conference offers the opportunity to make contacts with people from various fields, cultures and backgrounds.

The majority of delegates are young professionals from the fields of trade and industry, law, journalism, teaching and the diplomatic service.

The conference is open to applicants who fund all costs themselves, including travel.

Lecture topics will include terrorism, political and economic models, climate change; and integration, culture and conflict. There will be seminar discussions and workshops, a trip to London, including a visit to the theatre, social networking events, and a tour of Oxford and its colleges.

Applicants, aged between 23 and 35, are expected to have a first degree or to demonstrate significant experience in international relations or related fields.

They must also be able and willing to participate in every aspect of the programme and cope with the demanding schedule.

Applicants should obtain a letter of recommendation from ESU Malta, complete an application form, and submit a passport size photo and a 150-word statement of their interest in attending the conference.

Applicants must be available for the entire duration of the conference. The closing date for applications for local vetting is April 20. To apply, send an e-mail to: esumalta@maltanet.net.
