I attended the first Golden Cross International Song Festival for young people held from September 16 to 18 at Sir Temi Zammit Hall of the University of Malta.

This festival was held in collaboration with several entities and was also supported by the Ministry of Education and Youth. It was also supported by FIDOF, an international association of song festivals around the world. Over 80 singers from Malta, Italy, Poland, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Russia, Moldova and Macedonia took part in the festival.

The festival was organised by Anthony Grech. This was the first international festival for children and youths organised in Malta. Our young singers had the opportunity to take part with foreign young singers with the same talent and passion for music and singing.

Having attended quite a number of festivals for children and youths, I think the organisation of the festival was impeccable and reached a very high standard. This is all to the credit of Mr Grech, whose determination and hard work made it possible.

I hope that the Golden Cross Festival keeps its well-earned place in our cultural calendar and that such cultural activities get all the support they need to keep them going on.
