Iran insists on need for “definitive end” to conflict
Iran has rejected a proposed truce in its war with the United States and Israel, state media reported on Monday, despite the stark threat by US President Donald Trump to destroy its vital infrastructure.
"Iran has conveyed to Pakistan its response to the American proposal to end the war," the news agency IRNA said, without revealing what the offer contained.
"In this response - set out in ten points – Iran has rejected a ceasefire and insists on the need for a definitive end to the conflict."
On Sunday, Trump delivered an expletive-laden ultimatum to Iran via Truth Social.
“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.”
US-Israeli strikes on Monday killed Iran's Revolutionary Guards intelligence chief, who earlier this year had been sanctioned by the US for his role in suppressing anti-government protests.
Major General Majid Khademi, who, according to a statement by the Guards was killed in an airstrike at dawn, was one of several senior figures within the force to be killed so far in the war.
Earlier, Israel said it had struck Iran's largest petrochemical facility in Assaluyeh on Iran's Gulf coast, where local media reported multiple explosions.
Iran's National Petrochemical Company said it was assessing the damage after a fire was brought under control at the plant, state media reported.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said it accounted for about 50 percent of Iranian petrochemical production worth "tens of billions of dollars".
Iranian media reported "minor damage" after a second complex near Shiraz in central Iran was also hit.
An Iranian army spokesperson said the country will continue the war with the US and Israel for as long as its political leaders deem necessary.
"We can continue the war as long as the political authorities see fit," Mohammad Akraminia told ISNA news agency, adding that "the enemy must definitely regret it because, after this war, we need to reach a point of security and not witness another war".
Meanwhile, Israeli rescue services said that the bodies of four people had been recovered from the rubble of a residential building in the city of Haifa, after it was struck by an Iranian missile the previous day.
"All four missing persons have been located... All were found without signs of life, and MDA paramedics declared them deceased," Israel's emergency service, Magen David Adom, said in a statement.
