The Malta Red Cross has launched an appeal for funds to support fundraising efforts by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to cover the cost of its emergency operations in Iraq and neighboring countries for the next four months.

The ICRC is trying to raise SFR108 million (Lm31 million) to save lives and otherwise assist and protect people affected by the war.

The ICRC currently has a core team of 10 expatriate and some 100 local staff working in Iraq. Once the security situation allows, this core team will be reinforced by an additional 25 expatriates who were relocated to neighboring countries in mid-March. A further 60 expatriate staff are ready to begin work in Iraq on short notice.

Donations may be made to Bank of Valletta acc no. 10214861012, and HSBC acc. no 033143371050.

Donations may also be sent to the Red Cross Society office at 104/5 St Ursula Street,Valletta VLT 05.
