Irish scouts for Malta camp

Members if the Third Tyrone Catholic Boy Scouts from Strabane, in Ireland will be visiting Malta between tomorrow and Friday.

Strabane boasts one of the earliest scout troops in Ireland and indeed the world, having been established in 1907, just two years after Lord Baden Powel's first scout camp at Brownsea Island that saw the formation of the scout movement.

Named the First Strabane Scout Troop, it was based in Patrick Street, where it still exists today, and was also visited by Lord Baden Powell himself.

The visit to Malta is part of the troop's international camp, being the unit's sixth overseas trip in as many years.
