Is government spending on education adequate?
Angie Mercieca, 3rd year B.Ed Biology
"The proposed increase in expenditure will be very beneficial to all current and future students. A lot of refurbishing needs to be done, particularly in the science labs.
"Also, a lot of attention needs to be given to the IT department, where the latest technologies should be used.
"Overall, I hope that these extra funds will be used appropriately, so the students are the main benefactors."
Nicola Portelli, 3rd year B.Ed Biology
"As Malta does not have natural resources the government attempts to better its human resources by investing in education.
"From a positive point of view, the introduction of interactive white-boards is helpful for us teachers, as is the availability of computer labs. Another thing everyone talks about is stipends. I think it is fair that students have these.
"On the other hand, I think that libraries and laboratories must be better equipped. Most books are not available when you need them; you either have to wait or buy them. The biology labs are not equipped with all the required apparatus."
Edward Cachia Zammit, 2nd year B.Com
"Personally, I think any amount of money is always an advantage for the students in terms of the new University Trust Fund.
"Obviously, having to give a donation to benefit from a reduction of the same amount from the taxable revenue might not be something affordable."
