‘Island Impressions’: A personal journey through colours
Thalia Stones is exhibiting her work at the Banca Giuratale in Victoria
Artist Thalia Stones is exhibiting her work at the Banca Giuratale in Victoria.
The collection, titled Island Impressions, presents a lifelong practice in drawing and painting that began more than 70 years ago.
Inspired by everything around her, Stones thrives on painting challenging subjects, frequently experimenting with different media, such as gold and silver leaf, liquid charcoal, collage inks and wax encaustic, among other less well-known media.
From an early age, the artist has worked en plein air and is a familiar presence across the Maltese islands, often seen with an easel or sketchpad in hand.
Stones uses different media for her paintings. This latest exhibition highlights her engaging, loose style in watercolours and oils and her exuberant enthusiasm for a very wide variety of subject matter.
Among others, her works capture the sheer power of the natural world, the elements, the sound of the wind and sea, swimming in the sea surrounded by millions of fish, diving to untold depths at Ras il-Ħobz or Reqqa Point, dancing madly to heavy metal or moved to tears by Verdi.
