The board of directors of Island Sound Radio said yesterday the station had suspended commercial broadcasting "pending reorganisation".
The board strongly rebutted "rumours circulating to the effect that Island Sound Radio has ceased operating".
Sources close to the station said the employees had not been informed about what was taking place.
"There have been a lot of rumours about another company taking over the station but the employees have been left in the dark," the sources said.
"One presenter turned up to present his usual live show only to realise that the building was closed."
The management is denying the station is closing down after 11 years of broadcasting.
A spokesman for Network Publications has said negotiations are underway with a view to buying the station.
The station went off air on Monday at 9.45 a.m., midway through Marisa B's programme. It is now broadcasting Voice of America 24 hours a day.
The Broadcasting Authority is investigating.
