The government wants to take more educational initiatives to increase technological awareness and encourage an entrepreneurial community, IT Minister Austin Gatt said at an Oracle conference.
The leading software company last January announced a four-year vertical strategic alliance with the government.
In the keynote speech, Dr Gatt said the alliance was critical to transforming the country into an ICT centre of excellence by 2010. Kevin Attard, managing director of Oracle Malta, said: "In the short period since the opening of our office in September 2004, Oracle has demonstrated its commitment to Malta through a combination of initiatives, such as Oracle Academy, the University Students Summer Work, free Oracle Software to ICT students and the Oracle PartnerNetwork membership for ICT Startup companies."
