It is time for action

Now that the local elections are over and gone, I would like to express my short analysis regarding the St Paul's Bay elections.

First of all I must render my thanks and gratitude to all voters who voted for me in the elections. Being the number one or number six does not matter. My determination to contribute towards rendering Bugibba and Qawra a better place is now even stronger and concrete.

The massive absenteeism from the polls should be our major concern. Pre-election canvassing assured me of a good "women's" vote from the area. However, most Bugibba and Qawra residents did not even bother to take the walk to St Paul's Bay to cast their vote, even though it was a nice day. An abstention of this magnitude must be the result of a complex lack of confidence in the current set up.

Bugibba and Qawra are entities completely different from the St Paul's Bay town core. Now is the ripe time for the political parties to enquire if the present maxi council set-up is adequate for the area. Whether cession or area electoral representation, the parties must propose a solution.

All the Nationalist councillors are more interested to please the business community than us residents. Business areas have been enhanced to the residents' detriment. We residents are left with parking problems, daily tickets, dirty streets, rats etc... In spite of our heavy investment to move our homes here.

Now is the time to have some kind of action. Through this massive abstention, we residents have spoken... We want change... We want an equal share of well-being. The political power is called upon to find a just solution. We residents are expected to put the pressure and voice our protest. What is fit for Mdina, Swieqi, Iklin, etc... is fit for Bugibba/Qawra and Burmarrad.
