The Banda Sociale Erminio Deflorian from Tesero, Trentino, Italy will be performing in Malta next month as a guest band for celebrations to mark the 80th anniversary of the Sliema Philharmonic Society and the feast of the Sacred Heart on July 6.

The band will present a musical concert at The Strand, Sliema on July 5 at 9.15 p.m. under the direction of Mro Carlo Deflorian. At 8 p.m. it will take part in a band march and on the feast day, the Italian band will accompany the procession which starts at 7 p.m.

A characteristic of the band is the traditional uniform of the Val di Fiemme in the Dolomites.

A twinning agreement between the Sliema Band and the Erminio Deflorian Social Band in 1998 had opened the way for collaboration between the two bands.

Set up in 1817, the Erminio Deflorian Social Band has performed in various countries including Germany, Austria and Spain and also in Malta in 1998.
