Italian Di Bari seals top spot
Farrugia places third
An international skeet competition, part of the activities commemorating the Malta Shooting Sport Federation's 100th anniversary, came to an end in Bidnija in midweek.
The participants, hailing from Malta, Italy, Wales and Georgia, shot another round of 50 clays after targeting 75 on the opening day. The top six shooters contested the final barrage over 25 clays.
Italian Giovanni Di Bari hit a straight in the barrage to win the competition with 136 points, one ahead of compatriot Luigi Ronco.
Third place went to Malta's up-and-coming shooter Clive Farrugia who amassed 134 points, one ahead of Paul Vella who claimed fourth place after winning a shoot-off with Marco Sablone.
This was a remarkable result for Farrugia whose participation in this anniversary shoot was closely monitored by his coach, Steve Mock. Farrugia is aiming to take part in the Junior Commonwealth Games in Pune, India next October.
Another Italian, Andrea Sacchetti, was sixth on 132 points.
Only a point separated winners Italy (331) from runners-up Malta (330) in the team event. Wales placed third with a total of 264.
