Sixty players from 13 countries took part in the VLTC Kettle Chips European Junior Tournament, organised by the Vittoriosa Lawn Tennis Club (VLTC) in collaboration with the Malta Tennis Federation.
This competition took place between September 15 and 20 and was a Category 3 tournament under the Tennis Europe Under 14 Tour.
The tournament produced high-quality and entertaining tennis as a strong contingent of 13 players from Italy left their mark, conquering all the titles at stake.
The event also offered valuable experience for the local junior players who competed against some highly-rated players from other European countries.
In the boys singles, Italian Stefano Napolitano overcame compatriot Cristian Carli in the final.
The boys doubles' title went to Napolitano/Scerrati who had the better of the Slovakian pair Adam Kulich/Ivan Hric in the final.
Camilla Rosatello defeated Isabella Van Green, of Great Britain, 6-4 6-2, in an enthralling final in the girls singles competition.
Maltese player Brenda Galea and her doubles partner Madara Straume (Latvia) had a good run in the girls doubles, finishing runners-up to Italians Rosatello/ Tona who won the final 6-3 6-3.
The boys consolation event was won by Iacopo Beltramo (Italy) with Russia's Ilya Vasilyev taking the runner-up spot.
The final of the girls consolation event was another keenly-contested encounter in which Italy's Erica Tini Brunozzi prevailed over Latvia's Straume in a deciding third set tiebreak.
The presentation of trophies was made by Carlos Cluett, representative of Kettle Chips, in the presence of VLTC chairman Paul Micallef.
In a statement, the VLTC committee thanked the Malta Tennis Federation and the tournament's official sponsors, Kettle Chips, for their support as well as Tennis Club Kordin for making available their facilities for players' practice throughout the tournament.
